chili cook off 2011

Another great year for the chili cook-off. The weather held out- it wasn't 100 degrees and it rained just enough to cool us off. Next year- we are moving this to spring or fall!

So the winner was a surprise dark horse- a neighbor we had not met before but who had been here for over 20 years! Luckily for us he got married less than a year ago and his wife pushed him to come out and join us! So big winner was Rick and Maria from D street. Texas natives- so I have a soft spot for them. They are both from San Antonio.

2nd place- for the second year in a row---Steve Cha with his Cha Cha Chili!! Consistently good!

Chili Cook off in the garden

We invited neighbors and gardeners to bring their best chili recipe to a Chili Cook Off. We had about a dozen entries and wow- were they all good. It was a great day for chili and fun with the neighbors!

In the end it was a win by Kyo Freeman with his E Street Hot and Sweet recipe.
Right behind him was Amy Acosta with Capitol Punishment.

Thanks to everyone who participated and brought food and drinks to the festivities!

Easter in the Garden!

Thanks to Amy Wissler Acosta we had an amazing Easter egg hunt in the garden. She got the ball rolling and got us organized and the rest of us showed up with eggs and food! Thanks Amy.

The kids had a fabulous time hunting for all the eggs- although it wasn't too hard with hundreds of eggs all over the garden! I think all the kids walked away with tons of goodies.

And of course, the potluck lunch was great too. Everyone brought yummy food and we even had bloody mary's and Bourbon Slushies on hand too (Slushies by Slushers!).

All in all it was a great turnout and I think this may be the start of something!

Spring Work Day March '10- part 2

More pictures from the work day...

Spring Work Day March '10

We recently had a work day to pull weeds, plant plants around the perimeter of the garden and set up our patio with our new picnic tables. We put those new tables and umbrellas to use right away and enjoyed a perfect day to be outside. Thanks to all who showed up to work and a special thanks to Ryan Moody, landscape architect, who helped us purchase 80 plants at a great rate and then gave us a lesson in how to properly plant them. We can't wait to see how they all grow this season- the garden already is looking better!

Super Storm 2010

We can't see much in the garden these days besides lots of snow! But it will make it that much sweeter once we can get outside and spend some time in the sun as garden season starts up again.

We are also in the process of beginning the second garden space in the alley so please contact us if you want a plot. You can contact Colleen Cancio at CCancio@gmail.com for more information. We are looking forward to adding some new gardeners!
